My most recent project to be completed with photographs is for a home in Erskineville, this is a project that I completed towards the end of 2012. The clients own a gorgeous period home with some original features such as high ceilings, fireplaces, skirtings and windows. My brief was to bring some character to their main living area, a room that is long and narrow and so we decided to treat it as two separate seating areas.
BEFORE: Good basis to work from, but there just wasn't enough furniture or character in this home.
AFTER: warmth and vintage style added through use of fabric, furniture, rugs and artwork.
My clients are big fans on anything vintage, this includes their taste in music. They had found an original record player and speakers from the 70’s and wanted a mid-century style unit to house the system. This became our jumping off point for the whole design. Because we needed the unit to house the speakers perfectly I designed the piece with dimensions that made the most of the space under their stairs, and storage that fitted the speakers perfectly. We engaged EvoStyle to make the unit for us with a gorgeous walnut finish, very fitting for this period.

From there I sourced original vintage chair frames from eBay that had been restored and had my upholsterer make the seat cushions, we covered them in a burnt orange Warwick fabric, finishing them with cushions custom made from the Cloth Fabric range. By adding sisal and flat weave wool rugs, timber side table, artwork, lighting and a pop of stainless steel with the drum stool the whole space came together nicely. When in this room you really feel the warmth that that colours, fabrics and timber finishes provide. And there’s no mistaking the owners love for everything vintage.
