This is the sixth instalment this year of my case study series where I write about recently finished projects each with a different focus, brief, and style.
This project is a complete home renovation with a view to selling the property once completed. It’s a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom property that had a separate lounge, dining and kitchen. The wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed to really open up this space into a large entertaining area. We addressed every detail from designing a new bathroom with floor to ceiling Italian tiles using white and grey for a calm space, through to the new galley kitchen with stone tops, dark grey glass splashbacks and the sleek light cabinetry really crates a spacious room for entertaining.
New flooring throughout was a must, we used a hard tile for the ground floor that mimics the look of a timber and creates a Hamptons feel, through to plus cream carpet upstairs to create warmth and comfort in the two bedrooms. We layered rugs downstairs both in the kitchen with a hard wearing sisal through to the lounge room with a simple, neutral wool rug to pull this space together and contrast with the black sofa.
Interest was added through use of wallpaper in the lounge room and master bedroom, the colour palette was kept neutral for resale but pieces of artwork, the black sofa and coffee table and the heritage architraves that were painted bright white to make them pop add another layer to what would have been a very neutral design. To keep the light moving through each room use of wall hung mirrors was important and these also add to the decoration to create that designer look.
